    Dear,

    Later Chola Kings including the Great Rajendran made major attempts to unite the entire Kingdom by various means such as

    1. Ritual and religious means by protecting religious institutions and by construction of shrines

    2. Establishment of tax free grants

    3. The disputes were setteled effectively by arbitration

    4. Highly intellectural were recruited for tax collection and distribution of resources

    All these factors and similar factors though leads to expansion, urbanisation of the Chola Desam but the great Chola Kingdom could not exceed for more than five hundred years

    What do you feel the reasons for the fall down of the Chola Empire even though it has many unique good features compare to other Kingdoms?

    I am going through the entire threads and almost i got all the required reasons. Thank you.
    However in the later period of  cholas the taxes was extorbitant and many notificaiton in the form of kalvettu is available. It may also be one of the reasons for its down fall. Members may share the views

     The ratios of the number of inscription to the total inscription during the Chola regime for the various period are given in the following table, which I read in one of the research article

    is slightly heavy compare to earlier period except Eccoru.
    There may be chances of the downfall of the Chola Kingdom because of the excessive taxation.

    number of inscriptions on taxes, or the percentages of those taxes? If the
    latter, 0.15% seems absurdly low, and nearly 45% (if it’s given as a
    fraction of 1, and not 100) is absurdly high.

    If it’s the former, I don’t think anything can be said from the frequency
    of inscriptions, unless you actually read the inscriptions to find out what
    the actual burden was.

    The table mentioned in the earlier mail shows
    The number shown in the table is the ratio of the number of inscriptions to the total number of inscriptions of the chola kingdom during the varius periods.
     
    It is not the percentage dear.

    Then all it tells us is that there were a lot of inscriptions about taxes
    in that time. Doesn’t mean that the taxes were higher.

    On the other hand, rapid revisions of the tax code would indicate some
    instability, maybe?
