Your emailkicks up a major controversy adding a quirky twist to the well established historical facts about medieval and later Cholas.
You know Kalki also wrote about the glorious Pallava kings and their contribution to the Tamil art and culture which the state showcases as India’s heritage to the modern world. So is the contribution of Chola dynasty in a different time frame.
I don’t clearly understand what do you mean by Cholas being ‘robbers’, I would like to hear your arguments, but please consider these facts of history.
The dwindlingdominance of Pallavas, teased and vehemently challenged constantly by aggressive Pandyas (not Cholas) from 710 AD culminated in the 880 AD Thirupurambiyam war. That war wasa watershed in the history of Tamils, marking the end of dominance of Pandiyas and Pallavas and resurgence of medieval and later Cholas.Vijayalaya and his son Aditya had the foresight to establish a dynasty which had made a lasting impact on the annals of not only Tamil but Indian history. Their contribution to temple architecture, art, warfare especially naval, public administration, revenue collection, foreign trade and Hindu renaissancechiefly through their unwavering support for growth of Saivism in Tamil land are all admirable lessons from History, very unique and special.
Historically, Tamil origin of Pallavas is debatable; their surge to power from 250 AD to 340 AD in South Indiafrom the North is well established. It is the Pandyas who are the sons of Tamil soil, after vanquishing Kalabhras, challenged themthrough out the history. Kanchi was a seat of education and cross road to exchange of cultures as the rulers themselves were from outside the Tamil land and encouraged cultural and religious exchanges chieflyencouraginggrowth of Buddhism and Jainism at least till Mahendra’s time.
Pallavas contribution to art and architecture is simply unparalleled in our History, but Chola dynasty from the time of Vijayalaya made a lasting impact on our lives though their praise worthy contributions as undisputed rulers of the South India from Kumari to Thiruvengadam and beyond during greatest kings RRC and RC. History knows RRC as Raja Raja Chola the great, not because he belongs to a dynasty of robbers but supreme administrators and rulers.
