Pls start reserving place for tamil books like Ponniyinselvan in good museums ....
  • Dear friends,
I am 100% sure none those who oppose this tamil move have ever tried
    using tamil typing.
ekalappai is only 999 Kb in size. Its very miniscule compared to the
    current day
    standards.

I am sure some of the junk mails, junk greetings, (may be the Porno
stuffs) you receive and watch in your office time are larger than this
    software.

Ok even if we consider that you cannot install ekalappai(which
is only 999kb) or you dont dare to ask the concerned persons to install
that for you in browsing centres, you can atleast install only the font
TSC_Avarangal(or other similar font) alone to read the discussions.

There should not be any problem in installing one font in any computer.

For your kind info, yesterday i contacted another member of this group,
Lavanya over YIM, with my instructions she started typing tamil within
few minutes and we were chatting in Tamil ( I repeat in Tamil script)
over YIM for about 2 hours.

(Hi Lavanya Are you awake??? please let the group know how easy(or
difficult ) its to type tamil)

    Muyandral mudiyaathathu ethuvum illai.

About the browsing centres in Chennai, When customers like you demand
who will refuse to intall tamil software(which is free)??
Even if they refuse you should take initiative to make it a point that
they comply to your demand and install ekalapai for you.

    FYI,
I was told that the Satyam iWay is planning to make availabe the
ekalappai in all their iWay browsing
centres. So those using browsing centres for reading mails , should not
be having any problem in iWay browsing centres in Chennai.

If we dont use tamil where ever possible tamil will end up in museum ....

  • Its so pathetic that some mails are misunderstood. Its not the
question of SIZE of the file we are discussing here. Its the admin
privilage we need to install stuff.

    > ekalappai is only 999 Kb in size. Its very miniscule compared to

-It may not be easy for everyone to understand your problem, that u
want to use your language s/w installed. If they start OK-ing such
requests, there will be more chinese and spanish computers in US than
    english.

    > that for you in browsing centres,........
-we are not talking about browsing centers here.

I realize that there's no point in talking about this. Atleast I know
a couple of members in the group have the same problem.
    Thamizh vaazhga!
  • Guys,
whatz going on? Those who can type in thamizh pls. do and convert them to .gif format and upload. Others continue to write in english. Itz as simple as that. Mr. Mugunth, we are better off without ur constant remindings of we being thamizhs.
    Ram
  • Sorry folks,
I wouldn't have liked to interfere in this thread. A few
thoughts, may be to conclude(??!) this thread.

I would like to quote a few points. Muguntharaj is doing an
excellent job by making e-kalappai available to us. The problem
with this solution is that one needs administrative previliges
for using it. Those mainly affected by this are the ones using
browsing centers and the ones using computers in their
workplace. Asking the administrators at these places may not be
possible due to lot of reasons. Knowing your abilities
muguntharaj, will it be possible to have a solution that needs
no admin power even to install a font.

Thinking about Ram's suggestion, I would like to add that write
whatever you would like to in english/tanglish/tamil as we all
value the message more. We'll be glad if it could be in tamil.
When you want to use tamil fonts just screen capture the message
as you write into a gif/jpg and upload it into your account in
yahoo or some other place. Please, DONT ATTACH it to the group
mails as mailbox/group storage space is precious. Just give the
link at the bottom for the use of others.
Those who cant send it in Tamil, I appreciate that you still
want to talk about Tamil, inspite of the difficulty of having
to write only in english! It'll give us all immense pleasure
when you move into the higher plane by communicating in tamil.

Vazhga Ponniyin selvan(had to say it somewhere) kaaviyam!
    valarga adhan pugazh!

  • Dear friends

may be my response is a bit too late..and the discussion and fire may
    have died down.

I think a few of our friends are missing a point..It is easy for
people who have their own personal PCs and Laptops to install tamil
    fonts and software.

I have tamil fonts in my PC and Laptop but I have access to 15 PCs in
the department am I go to install tamil in all those getting
permission from the administators and managers..imagine there are 60%
overseas doctors in the UK 50%are indians and you can imagine if
each, arab, syrian, and chinese installed their fonts in the system
which native english can't understand the fonts and scripts then they
speculate as to the content of the text(LET US COME TO REAL WORLD
WHERE DARK SKINNED PEOPLE ARE LOOKED UPON AS TERRORISTS IN THE
WESTERN WORLD)It is not that we rae averse to tamil communication and
let people dont make it an issue and makethe egroup nasty as I have
    seen some communications and messages.

The members in the states and UK have kept the group going as they
can browse and type during work and at home lets not kill the spirit
    by being bullishly pedantic....

I know it didnt mean anything but statments like smaller than the
junk files{porn} is not the politically correct thing to say we have
been a good and elite group and Ram lets maintain it that way.

It sometimes becomes reading Tamil typed in english difficult but I
think we have to live withit for now

I am as enthused about tamil and have tamil fonts but the time I
spend at home is from 2200hrs to 630hrs am I going to be surfing
    then No way mates

I hope we just put a blanket statement on the website mentioning its
atamil/tamnglish/english web site)to deter people from these pedantic
discussion as though they are the only ones breathing TAMIL and the
rest dont give a damn about TAMIL.

    SRIDHAR
  • Dear Friends,

I would agree with Sridhar. I am a computer consutant shuttling to various
client sites and come home only at the week-end. Though I access my mails, I
cannot install Tamil fonts at all my client sites. It is easier for me read
English or Tamenglish rather than installing Tamil fonts.

May we stick to English or Tamenglish?
  • Thanks to Krupa, Raja, Ramani, Sridhar, Sreeram,
Shanta et al (and ofcourse, Ram) for understanding the
font problem. So there are more than one person in the
    group with the same problem.
Kadalaimittai was sweet, Krupa. Atleast I can read all
    the tamil mails now.
    Thilak
  • > Kadalaimittai was sweet, Krupa. Atleast I can read all

Really wonderful & thanks! There are so many errors in it, but I
just cannot stop uploading it. I have fixed those errors (like
differentiation between tamizh yezhuththu "ch" and "s", etc, but have
not uploaded the recompiled file. I am working on Thanglish to
tamizh (those Chinese letters) conversion now, and will be through
    today.

In the meantime, I am trying to display everything in tamizh text
itself even if one does not have ekalappai or tamil font installed in
their system. If I could have a bit information about the operating
system, directory access permission rights, I can focus on a
    particular one, hence the poll.
