  • Nice Show,

Except that Civil Engineers does not know anything about ancient structures
like temples!!! Here I would like to say, the documentation is very
    important...

If the ancient architects had documented the design, he need not to blame us
engineers. At the same time REACH has to document what they are testing,
procedure for renovation of various structures etc. so that the next
generation shall not blame REACH for not documenting.
  • Thanks for your time and comments Satheesh and Vijay.

The documentation and rule book we have done for HR&CE A.P is available and we are seeing if we can bring smaller books subject wise, I mean stone relaying, lime stucco work, painting restoration, bronze cleaning and conservation, like wise... Let's see. If our members can bring in any publisher to take it up in big way, both in English and Tamil, we can give material immediately.

As for the on-line epigraphy course, we hope if volunteers are available, to bring it on line by March 2011.

By January 2011, contact classes for Vattezhuthu and Grantha would start.

Data is available aplenty but volunteers are less to spare time :(

Here I would say, why not the researchers and engineers do case studies in heritage temple themselves and learn and document the engineering aspect? We are happier if spon fed, we do not want ourselves go near the food...

Me too, as an Mfg engineer, I took the risk of material selection and methodology for stitchinggranites, with Ms. Anupadma of IIT. It worked and the tests also turned positive and encouraging..!

  • Dear Sri Sri sir :

Why you have suddenly taken out the ponniyin selvan audio downloads from your
    site ?
The download was available earlier and now the same has been removed.

  • Dear Chandra

We are in 21st century. Please think about putting them up online rather than waiting for a publisher. I am sure you must already have them in electronic form. You can simply upload them in reach website and thus preserve them forever.

If the work involves only editing and formatting, probably, many of us can volunteer and make them in a form fit for online publication.

Printing them is all together different ball game. Also if you are very much concerned about copyright and/or patent then also it is different.

  • As a person from Chettinad - where beautiful buildings were bulit till 1910s, - the same techniques were followed.

It is the arrogance of the builders - many renovations are made by masons and the so called builders - who know only cement, bath room tiles, granite slabs and clour paint do the renovation.

The second culprit is the public - who think that this is renovation.

will post my latest visit photos on saturday or sunday.

Simillarly Kanyakumari amman temple with max inscriptions is under renovation. Can we take some proactive steps. One donor - who is paying for the chemical wash of walls is asking for help.

require volunteers who can help him.

will post in detail once i am back
