Movies on History
  • Dear All

We can argue both ways stating it is fiction...But we have to do justice to our ancestors and history..In a way MGR was good as it always was fictious places.

Using timelines...names can leave a bad impact on the younger generation...

My son who is 8 asks me Why would a King be so cruel to through someone in the sea...

Kids in england believe Middle Earth nad the Shires were part of history!!

I think they can leave damning effects...I am sure the guy who wrote..'' Thillaiyadi Valliamma Dillirunda Vaadiyamma...'' doesn't actually know who she was...

    If I can stop one heart from breaking,I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin, Into his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

her mother's native was thillaiyadi near tranquebar

she died just after being released from a south african prison
  • Ithukku thaan appove sonnen.... don't mess with 'young general'...
And...In 100 years some vella kara dorai will literally translate this song lol...

People like satyaraj will say by writing this song our ilaya thalapathi has kept history and kannadasn in minds of youth...

But now that the song is in a vijay film I can believe some one is out to defame the cholas :)

And venkat: he is implying that kannadasan songs are either slippery or a pin in the neck :)

Oru vijay paatukulla evalo matter.... makkal in depth analysis panna matengranga...

Our knolwdge is truly lost ;)

  • The music director gave an interview that he wanted a tamil literature based song and this was done

some words are " kirankadikura gin'nu
  • Oh God - that Karikalan song!

Who in their right mind compares a heroine's tresses to Karikalan's (burnt)
leg???!!! I swear, I did a double-take when I first heard it. And yes, VA
mentioned in an interview that he wanted something "literary." The horrible
part s, they seriously do think they're revolutionizing tamil cinema. Or
    kavidhai, at any rate.

    Grroooaaan.

  • Sri,

Quite a few, actually - but I haven't made up my mind as to who, or how
    many, :).

One pet peeve I have is using historical story titles for ordinary rom-com
    movies. :(

I totally agree with you..Is there a dirth of imagination in our moviedom...they have to use Parthiban Kanavu..PonniyinSelvan etc...

    BTW

Any one know what happened to the KalingerTV venture to film PS with Naga?

Recently there was a mail about Vishnuvardhan wanting to do a historic movie with Vikram..and people were wondering PS?

Could it be YavanaRani or Kadal pura??

  • I didn't know there was a line on Thillayadi Valliamai like that..how rude and disrespectful.. the overwhelming sarcasm and cheap taste taking over thte general public in TN is really very hard to explain... I remember watching nearly the last movie screening of AVM's classic Avvaiyar while i was in 5th grade. They had to stop the movie after interval due to audience cat calls and bad behavior.

My mother and I watched an equally old classic Sampoorna Ramayanam much later in Bangalore (with Sivaji as Bharatan and NTR as Sri Rama). Not one person in the audience stirred and you could actually see people nod to the music.

The overwhelming 'nakkal' and sarcasm among TN audience particularly around history or mythology is largely due to DK influence I think -and impacted their own movies as well.Even after 70s it became impossible to enjoy a historical classic in theatres, including fictional ones like Sivaji's Manohara.

    Hi Sri
there was a silver lining to this

in the ps quiz on aug 15th we had stills of the modern day parthiban kanavu, kalvanin kathali and alsiyosai and asked the audience what the common thread was. the answer came in about less than a second

  • Amen to that Malathi.

As long as people do not have that influence they are good, I had seen Avvaiyar with my 10 year old and she was totally involved in the movie, I could not believe it but yes she was very keenly into the movie!!!

The side to that, my daughter sat thru the entire movie 'Sabapathy' and enjoyed it.

Clearly its how the people get to see things as they grow up. The influence factor has played a very important part in our past.

Be it movies, caste or religion!
