kalki 's information
  • > Do you recall the torrential rain described in SS when Narasimha and
    > Sivakami spend time together ? Saturday night rain was heavy and
    peculiar!

    Hi sps
friday afternoon was no better or I was stuck in the traffic in
    pouring rain for 3 hours.
kalki enjoys putting natural calamities in his books. tsunamis,
    cyclones, lightning strikes,etc.

I happened to read a kalki short story yesterday.

its about a flight from chennai to delhi in early 1950s

he calls air hostesses "vimana ubasaranai ramani"

also a flight from chennai to delhi stops in secundrabad, nagpur and
gwalior where passengers dis embark for breakfast or lunch. only
coffee and peppermints served on the flight.
so much a writer can tell us about the past
  • Hi Folks,

One of the most amazing aspects of Kalki's
discriptions of nature is that he romantisises the
simplist of events. Beautiful skys, lovely waves,
flowers, the breeze, the smell in the air. I feel like
I am practically there and am most refreshed :)

    Hi
isnt this glorification a little too much.
Kalki was a great observer who could recall several of his
    observations in to his books.

he was no expert in meterology just because he described a thunder
    storm.
his history tells us he was an expert as a writer and music critic.

I sincerely hope we can discuss kalki's pitfalls as well as his
    proficiencies.
and for those who havent read the other works of kalki , please do
and you will get a complete picture of the author.
  • Dear GSK,

Hope Bangalorean PS members will re- work on the fabulous trip
    suggested by Sriram.
    regards/ sps
  • What trip? Where are we going from Bangalore? :)
Between Bangalore and Mysore, nearer Srirangapatana
there are beautiful delapitated Mandapams - I always
wonder how old they are and if those were part of the
    "mahindra mandapams" and "bharatha mandapams"
    mentioned in Kalki's books.
