ThirunageswaramRaghu TempleKarthikai Sunday Theerthavari Festival
Boutika purana which is written in Sanskrit ably describes the glory of this place. Once upon a time this place was so full of senbaka trees and was called Senbaka forest. The Lord here is in Linga shape, under the Senbaka tree and so He is called Senbakarenyachurer. The Goddess here is Kundrumulai ammai (Grigujambikai). Once, a Yogi called Bringi, without offering worship to the Goddess, worshipped Lord Siva alone. Because of that the Goddess, after doing severe penances along with Lakhsmi and Sarawathi and Balasubramaniar, Balashastha, Sanganidhi, Padhumanidhi, got the right side of the Lord Siva as a boon. So, the Lord here has another name Mangaibankar(Archananrichurer). The Lord of this temple is the heart throb of Sekkilar, the famous author of Tiruthondar puranam (periyapuranam) (story of sixty three Nayanmars), which is one of the Twelfth Thirumurai
Here this Karthikai Festival is important festival. All the Sundays in the Karthikai month, the Theerthavari Festival is performed in the Surya Pushkarani (Surya Tank). Last Karthikai(Tamil Month) Sunday Theerthavari is very important in this Temple.
