An extremely noble deed that deserved more than a Nobel Prize. On the same note, how about recognizing the memory of a million plus gypsies of Indianorigin who were also gassed to death in those concentration camps?
Wrongly called (E)gyptians and Romanies (after the language they spoke -- it closely resembles a dialect of Punjabi spoken about 1000 years ago in Punjab and Northwest), they are neither Egyptians nor are they Romans! When the first wave of Turkish - Arab - Persian conquest hit the North Western part of India, a group of inhabitants fled the region to the Aral Sea, Caspean Sea area and thence to Southern Europe, carrying with them their faith, their culture and of course their genes. Since then, have been living as nomads, surviving the onslaughts of Europeans in addition to those who drove them out, earning all kinds of racial epithets all along their sojourns. Till date, none of them has any papers, or passports and they are constantly on the move throughout Europe. Some have managed to reach the US and Canada as refugees and these are probably the only ones with passports! Jewish victims got their dues largely due to the fact that they hold the reins of international banking and finance and due to the fact that they are white and whites are in control of international banking, finance and polity, regardless of the Nation State they live in. The only agency that could have come to the succor of the Gypsies was the Indian Government. The least that the Indian Government could have done would have been to declare an open policy of accepting them, after the war. However, the Government simply refuses to recognize the fact that they are people of Indian origin! So much for all the "sarvadharma sambavana" and "vasudaivaika kutumbakam"! All this, when they are busy serving "briyani" to the terrorists in "jail"?! With the kind of leadership in place in Delhi and in the states, from 1947 onwards, and after seeing what they did to our kinsmen in Ceylon, Malaysia and Fiji and how indifferent they are to the cultural plight of our kinsmen in the East -- VietNam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand & Burma and elsewhere -- this is perhaps too much to accept from the Government.
