Oriyuran, father of Vijayayala !
  • This Oriyur village could be the one near the border of Ramnad and Pudukkottai districtwhich could be the place of Oriyuran, father of Vijayayala.  Please see the link :

    https://sites.google.com/site/wwwrameshwaremtemplecom/

Moreover, this part of Oriyur and Pudukkottai districts have considerable population of
Maravar branch of the Devar community. Hence this could be possible.

  • This Orriyur is a thevara vaipputhalam. The Godess Bagam Piriyal is very famous.

But that is called vetriyur. orriyur is the chennai suburb temple and sung bay all 3.

Pallava stone temple and Rajendra later renovated the temple

ottriyuran must be the name of chennai lord only.
  • This Oriyur comes under Thiruvadanai taluk !

  • Hi

There is nothing wrong in a person having a name Otriyooran. That is one of Siva's name and was popular due to Sundarar's life.

We are reading tooo much in that name. We should not speculate.

For eg - SriVallaban is the name of the god in Thiruvalla in Kerala. ( sung by nammaalwar and Thirumangai) That dose not mean Srimara srivallabha Pandya was from Thiruvalla.
  • The King who is puzzling us - one who influenced the Tirukkattuppali Grant - who is unknown - may be a telugu chola or uraiyur chola

    yes - u r right
  • There is mention of shifting the residence of king's family from Uraiyur to Pazhayarai and
vive versa which is referred to Ponniyin Selvan too !

  • Is there any mention of orriyur in ps?
  • Not Oriyur but the practice of the shifting. So it could be possible that kings changed
    residence for obvious reasons.

  • Dear Vijay,

I am not getting tamil arts academy pages.

    sps
  • The interesting bit here is that the Cholas weren't so big during this
time; Tanjore to Pazhaiyarai to Tanjore to GKC is possible because they
controlled the whole area. Oriyur being near Chennai, which is in Pallava
lands is interesting in many ways...

Hence my opinion that they weren't the main line, which would surely have
    ruled from Uraiyur.

    Shash
  • Just a speculation:

They went from Chennai area along with Nirupatunga for Vennatrup Por and as a gift settled in that area. ( again speculation only)

I feel there is some thing hidden on the victory of cholas over Tanjai.

There are different versions in each Copper plates and Kanyakumari inscription.
  • The Tiruttani/Velanjeri copper plates were discovered much later after PS by Kalki.

    Hence not possible
  • PS begins with our Vandhiya Thevan carrying message from Aditya Karikalan to

Sundara Chozhan only to invitethe latter to stay in the newly constructed palace

at Kanchi apprehending conspiracy over the successor issue !
