Maaravarma Sundara Pandiyan while describing his chola expedition in his meikeerthi, writes "Ponmudi parithu paananuku koduthu". Does this mean a Bana is crowned as chola?
I read in an article Kulothunga III during his final Pandiya expedition, crowned a Bana (who helped cholas to win madurai) as Pandiya just to insult Pandiyas. His kalvettu goes as, "nedumparai thennavar keda madurai konda tholvali paadiya paananai pandiyanendru parumani pattam sootinan". But i couldn't find these lines in his meikeerthi. It seems the Pandiyan repeated the same act when he got his turn.
The article also says Banas were considered inferior and thus Cholas and Pandiyas tried to insult each other by crowning Banas.
