Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam Invited to Southern Sudan After Independence Vote New York, NewYork (PRWEB) January 17, 2011
Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement (SPLM) has invited Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) to visit Southern Sudan in the immediate aftermath of the vote for an independent state. TGTE is sending a delegation to participate in the celebrations and to discuss possibilities of assisting Southern Sudan in their development efforts through Tamil Diaspora expertise in selected fields. TGTE delegation will be received by the SPLM officials and will stay as guests of SPLM. They will also meet other foreign government leaders.
TGTE Prime Minister, Mr. Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran in his message stated that "The invitation received by us is considered recognition not only of the TGTE but also of the Eelam struggle. TGTE is calling on Eelam Tamils to celebrate the freedom of Southern Sudanese people. Eelam Tamils can clearly understand the joy of Southern Sudanese becoming free people and share their happiness."
The relationship with SPLM and TGTE is nothing new. SPLM sent its Secretary General for the United States, Mr. Domach Wal Ruach, to speak at TGTE's inaugural event held in Philadelphia in May 2009. On that occasion, he spoke of the similarities between the independence struggle of Tamil Eelam and that of Southern Sudan. He also spoke of the challenges facing freedom struggles and expressed their solidarity with Eelam Tamils.
SPLM has been leading the struggle for independence by the people of Southern Sudan from North Sudan. SPLM as the overwhelmingly popular group will form the government of independent Southern Sudan. Years of enormous suffering of the people of Southern Sudan will at last come to an end with the birth of a nation of their own. Around two million people have died during the struggle. Civilians were massacred, and people died of starvation and without medical help. While witnessing the birth of that new nation, Eelam Tamils can reflect on the years of suffering they have undergone in the name of independence and feel confident that Eelam too will be free like South Sudan.
President Obama's op-ed in New York Times on the day of the Referendum stated: "Millions of Sudanese are making their way to the polls to determine their destiny." TGTE is applauding President Obama's statement and calls upon the international community to give an opportunity for Eelam Tamils to determine their destiny the same way.
Eelam Tamils already spoke loud and clear during the Parliamentary elections in 1977, when they overwhelmingly voted for the Tamil Party that ran on the basis of the Vaddukkoddai Resolution which called for the creation of an independent state of Tamil Eelam. This peaceful expression of Eelam Tamils - long before the armed struggle began in Sri Lanka - clearly indicated the preferred position of the Tamils. Recently the Tamil Diaspora took part in referendums in various countries and reaffirmed their political will to establish an independent state in their homeland. It is also emphasized that given the genocide of Tamils seen in the final stages of the war in 2009, the Tamil claim for an independent state gains more justification as a remedy that ensures their very physical survival.
Both for the Sudanese regime and present Sri Lanka regime, China has been the influential international patron. Sudanese President Bashir has been indicted for genocide and the Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa is to be indicted for genocide at some point in time.
Prime Minister Mr. Rudrakumaran further said in his message "TGTE and the people of Tamil Eelam express their heartiest wishes to SPLM and to the people of Southern Sudan on their liberation. We salute you for your sacrifices to become free and admire your courage and determination. We wish you a very successful and prosperous future."
Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a democratically elected body of the Tamil diaspora from the island of Sri Lanka. TGTE held elections in 12 countries to elect Members of Parliament. The Parliament drafted and ratified its Constitution, elected a Prime Minister, a Speaker, and 10 member Cabinet.
