Madras Bashai
  • Recently we were discussing about 'Madras Tamil', which we all assume to
be the most worst form of Tamil :) And we did come across few words which
are actually Sanskrit words used in Madras Tamil. Like 'kasmaalam' is
actually 'kasmalam' a sanskrit word. I suddenly remembered another couple
of words, which are pure tamil/sanskrit words used in Madras Tamil. 'Naasthi'
is a slang used to mean 'destroy' or 'nothing'...'unna naasthi panniduven' -
will destroy you or will make you nothing/no one... Actually Naasthi is a
sanskrit world, meaning almost the same...I think - Nothing. And
    'kelikarathu' - to win....'naan kelichiten' - I have won.... Kelithal is a
pure tamil word. I think I have seen this word in Kamba Ramayanam. Not sure
in which part, but Kelithal is a pure tamil word, meaning 'to win'. Actually
Madras Bashai seems to be a mix of pure tamil and sanskirt words and we
    think otherwise :) I think 'Naastha' - meaning 'tiffin'/food is also a
sanskrit word OR atleast its definitely a Hindi word meaning the same.
    Regards, Satish

    Sathish Sir,

U rightly said naasthi means nothing in Sanskrit
Naasthikan  - means who beleives there is no god
Opposite word Asthigan - who believes god is there

  • Thanks Vimala for confirming and stating example...

    Please drop 'Sir'....
  • Vimala,

Pls check sanskrit dictionary... Naasti is there in sanskrit.

    Naasti means "Non existance"

What you are talking about is "Nastika"
