May induce others to read!
  • Hi all!
Regarding the teleserial, all may not accept the actors as our dream
characters. But,after watching the serial, some may read PS.In that way
    I heartly welcome the serials.
I've got pictures drawn by both Maniyam & M.Selvam.I'll try to scan
them and mail you as soon as possible.
    Have a nice time.

  • Dear friends,
In a way we should Thank the media world for not to have taken a film
or serial on PS. Gone are those artists who can create the
impression, when we read the novel. All of us have our own version
of those lively characters in my mind.
The characterization given by Kalki is so enormous that they all live
in our hearts. And I read PS without seeing all those pictures of
Maniam Selvan. Nobody had created characters like this in the past.
So when this character gets picturized by today's artists, we even
begin to hate the characters we have created in our minds.
If at all there is one person, who can fit into any character, it
was Sivaji Ganesan, the great. Be it a Raja Raja Cholan, V.O.C or a
Veera Pandiya Kattabomman, the face that comes to our mind is that of
Sivaji's only. I think a lot of people also will accept this. But I
also believe, that these characters were not introduced in writing
like Kalki had done in PS.
I shall given an example, when a tele-serial totally broke down the
characterization done by the Author. About 10 years back in Anandha
Vikatan, there was a thodar Kathai called "Ippadikkku thendral". I am
not sure, how many of u read that thodar kathai. I won't say the
story was great, but the characterization given by the author to 2
characters, namely Hari & Meera were extraordinary. Meera was
supposed to be a very very dynamic, enthusiatic and fun loving
character. And Hari a, smart handsome and romantic guy. That's how
Maruthi's pictures also supported the characterization. But when
this was serialized, they had used really some dull artists for these
2 characters and totally matashed the tempo of the serial. So this
kinda compromise will definitely happen when they select people for
the roles in PS. Thank God no director / producer had ever thought of
    this.
In that case, Hollywood did a good job in making God Father. The
characterization given by Mario Puzzo and the director of the movie
    complemented very well.

So let the lively and legendary characters of PS, always live in our
hearts and Souls. If at all somebbody comes up to put PS on the
media and if by chance, the artist doesn't live up the real image of
the character, we will begin to hate the real character in the novel.
