ARR wins Oscars
  • AR Rehman proudly took home Oscars for best music today. It was a
historic moment on stage as he said 'ella pugazhum iraivanukke' in his
typical humble style in front of the world audience.

Way to go ARR and times have changed, for good.

    Ella Pugalum Iraivanukke!
  • Malathi,

you made my day. I was dejected when i checked up the news in the
morning and thought Rehman did not get the oscar without realizing the
    ceremony is still on.

'ella pugazhum iraivanukke', typical Rahman. am so happy.
  • It is really great.

Best Wishes on behalf of PSVP members.

  • Jai Ho!! A.R.Rehman!!!!!!!

definitely a proud moment for all of us :)
  • It was a really nice touch to hear ARR speak tamil in that atmosphere. Dont
know how he thought about it. Definitely "Ella Pugazhum Iraivanukke".
Its his humility and shyness which stands out.

I know he must have been emotionaly charged but then he should have
given an exact translation of those words. the world was watching and
the beauty of those three words would have been fit instead of "god
is great." which is what he said.

i know some words cant be translated in entirety
    "all praise to god"
or "all fame to god" wouldnt have been exact.
    what that line meant is

"all the fame-- only for god"

IT IS RATHER PARADOXICAL THAT "SUM DOG" & OSCAR GOT INTO HISTORY !!

    JAYAHO... NEW SPIRIT...

    REGARDS/ SPS
  • Mr.Venketesh;

It wasn't Karan Johar...It was Karan Thapar in Hardtalk. It was the first
interview of Rehman after Roja and he was incredibly shy. Thapar rates that
as his toughest interview. Ofcourse, the successive interviews of ARR by the
same gentleman were much more interesting.

  • Venkat, he was SO much better than what he was at golden globes, much
better dressed (for international audience) and confident, no shyness
or mumbling. Shyness might be perceived as humility in our country
but abroad it comes across as lack of confidence and is not a good
thing. Some of us watching had no doubt he would win, we just hoped
he would not mumble something and walk off that nobody understood.
But am sure he took some kind of stage training - he did fine, we can
forgive that translation. My sister is mad he put out this hindi
movie dialog 'mere paas maa hai' as if there is no tamil parellel for
that, but hey he shared one award with a hindi guy (Gulzar) so that
    is forgiven too.

It was indeed a treat to watch the likes of Spielberg and Brad Pitt
nodding to 'Jai Ho' although like any other thing there is lot of
criticism over how it was staged.

  • ARR - What a sweet,genuine artist.
I'm so grateful, Venkatesh, for your
    translation of his Tamil.
Can't imagine a US movie person saying anything so selfless.

  • I join the other members of the Ponniyin Selvan Group in conveying my
heartiest congratulations to A.R.Rahuman - Music Director, who has
earned a great name and much fame for himself, for Tamil Nadu, and to
India as a whole at International Level, by he winning the two Oscar
    awards this year.

  • It is a happy moment to know that the long pending recognition of
Indian talent by the Oscars has come through now. I would like to look
at this award as given to the other much-deserving talents from India
over the years, along with A.R.Rahman. It is India's good fortune that
this film was an English production and so was eligible to participate
in the competition. Else our only entry option was in the Best Foreign
    Film category.

Better late than never.... Congrats to Rahman, the film's team and all
the other unsung talents who have made equally good / better movies /
music but were either excluded or overlooked over the years.
  • Really a milestone for Indian talents. Better late than never....
Hearty congrats to ARR, Gulzar, Resul Pookutty...who made India proud..
  • Recalled Karan Thapar's Hard Talk with Pakistan Prez Zardari during
    post 26 /11..

    Fantastic.

I enjoyed some of Simi's Interviews too : With Jaya & Amitabh.!!
