Chera connectivity with Cholas
  • Dear SPS,

Very good and valuable information on chera connectivity with Chola.

Kulasekhara Alwar period was given here. It seems acceptable too. He visited Thillai in Chola Desam but the land probably ruled at that time was Pallava -

Can you enlighten us with further availabe details on this?

  • Dear sps sir.....is this correct ( was mentioned in the earlier string)
    >>>>>>>>>>
The Chera king Kulasekaran had a son by the name Rajasekaran. With
the abdication of Kulasekara from Chera throne, his son Rajasekaran
{A.D.820-844} became the king of the Chera country. He was also known
by the name Cheraman Perumal and unlike his father was an ardent
    devotee of God Siva.

  • MY GOD

a nayanmar son for an alwar?

I am sure there were more generations between them.

they even had a muslim in the family right in mohammeds time.
according to indian muslim chronicles. a cheraman mosque exists in
kerala. but mohammeds time would clash with the chere chronology

  • Dear Vijay,

In case you have Trivancore Archelogical series, pls check.
Cheraman perumal is discussed in detail.

Rememeber to have read more on Rajasekaran too.

Also another piece of information that Kulasekara's brother -
allegedly got converted to Islam - is also discussed and Negatived.

  • Hi Friends

Just to add a few lines in your thought flow

The circumstances you are discussing now is handled well in Kannadasan's Cheraman Kadali.

This novel clearly depicts how the vim’s and fancies of a warrior turned king had dissected the Chera empire into eighteen parts and even some of these parts were freely donated to a few of the loyal servants.

    A memorable Novel
    Rajasekaran Venkatesan

    Hi

i think the cheraman who comes in the novel turns a muslim in
mohammeds influence. there is still a mosque in his name

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheraman_Juma_Masjid
but then mohammeds period was 570-672 ad.
does it match when we compare the alwar and nayanmar in the same
    lineage?

    dear venkat

i had forwarded the ref from travancore series referred by sps
sir....the dating seem to be more around 825 AD for the ascent to
kailash.. almost 200 years after the prophet ... so defn a myth.

  • Hi
there was also a major chera connectivity with the later pandyas.
ravivarman kulasekaran was achera king whose maternal grandparents
    were the pandyas.

history says he was the only king left unnaffected by malik kafur's
invasion. infact he had even crowned himself as the pandya king on
the banks of the rive vegavati during the power vacuum that ensued
    after maliks unsolicited visit.
