Thakkolam and Takua Pa
  • Dear all...

Thilak, Latha, Sri, good to hear from you:-). Everyone else, join the fray
    as soon as you can!

And for the benefit of the newbies and Oldbies, who're back after a long
while...the latest news is that one of our star members- Gokul - did an
impressive interview about our group and its activities on Singapore Radio.

People...do you remember the discussion we had about including ThakkOlam in
the Mudhal Yathirai? We wondered what was left in Thakkolam. Well, here's an
interesting tidbit from Dr. Jaybee about it. I shall give it in his own
    words:

"...ThakkOlam is very important place. There is a Pallava
temple there. You can see some very rare statues. The Dhakshinamurthy is
unique. The Durga bears the prayOga Chakra.
There is a very tall kodi maram. Nearby, you can see a half buried Bairavar
statue. One of the most beautiful and life-like specimen that is found
    around.
ThakkOlam has its twin city in the present day Thailand. Its known as Takua
Pa. There was a Vishnu temple there. Its also a very important historical
place. One of the 13 naval bases that were struck by Rajendra Cholza I.
There are several articles about all this in Agathiyar.

Here are some remnants of the Avani Naarana PerumaaL temple of Takua Pa -
    TakkOlam of Thailand.

There were twin cities to important cities of Tamilnadu, in those days.
    Madurai had several. "

    Well....what do you all think?
  • Dear pavi
    That was very interesting
But I guess it was the Tamil influence that created the twincities when people migrated or find new places thet always name it after their old home like
    NewYork
    Newsouth Wales
    Birmingham
    Manchester

May be thats how madurai and takkolam have twins

    Any thoughts guys
