Almost 8 months back, I spoke about my desire to record the history of the tamils - cholas in particular in a timeline format. I spoke of the need for a software that links into further historical data (for the techies - this could be an xml text), to provide easily retrievable information even for the non-historians and esp students.
After some trivial efforts at trying to get started on this effort earlier, today, I found an open-source software (meaning, we can use this code to put our data, and what more we can even change the code to make it better). Also, we can have wiki pages, upload the tons of material that a lot of us have (attn sps), and give links from the timeline graph! sounds wonderful. Doesnt it?

that looks really cool. remember i sent a similar link about indian religion history some time back. but that was done with flash i think, but this one looks much better and neat.

Can we use wikipedia.org instead of using our own wiki site? If that is what you had specified by wiki pages then sorry for the misinterpretation.
yessir... lets expand wikipedia tamil entries as part of this effort....

I would like to start a team for this... people interested in expanding the wikipedia tamil pages on tamil history, please let me know on mails... I will start a project of some kind to communicate and collaborate....
The basic requirements are:
1. Collect and authenticate info - Data Collection Team: SPS mentions that we have tons (repeat - tons) of data on tamil history.. we need to collect them under one roof and authenticate information
2. Make wikipedia entries - Data entry Team Once the Data Collection team provides a pipeline of data, the Data Entry Team - enters that data - in tamil - into wikipedia - keeps track of changes to these pages
Maybe the teams can have a glamorous name, please suggest...
