Godess Durga or Kotravai is supposed to be the Form of universal mother in a fierce form. She is worshipped by Kings and all kshatriyas right from days immemorial.
Sri Durga Shathanama sthotram was done by Yudhishtra, on Krishna's order, for winning the Kurukshetra War.
She had been involved in one form or other at least for cholas right from days of Muchukundha establishing Kaveripoompattinam, as Champapathi Devi.
